Is religion good for people?
Is religion good for the country?

Is God Real? Define reality. God is real to those who believe in God. Define God. Creator? Answering prayers? First Mover? Ultimate Mystery? Even though I do not believe in a personal God, the presence of such a belief in the majority of people with whom I live and interact makes God real for me in a pragmatic sense.
Is Religion Good for People? Again, define Good. If you mean continuation of a tribe, then I think that Religion has a strong evolutionary selection pressure that allows for one tribe to survive over another. Is that good for people as a species? Probably not. Second question derived from this line of thinking: is religion good for people on an individual basis? Have we a built-in "spiritual" center in our brains that requires a religious framework for a healthy psyche?
Is religion good for the country? Now that we are far beyond the tribe landscape in which religion probably evolved, it is much harder to say. I'll have to defer this answer into my comments on later posts.
Nice start.
